Description
Fiji Shark Dive at The Colosseum, Beqa Lagoon
Our morning 2-tank shark dive takes you to The Colosseum, a shark dive site on the edge of Beqa Lagoon, a short boat ride from our dive shop in Pacific Harbour on Fiji's Coral Coast. You kneel on the sand with your back to a wall while our guides and shark feeders bring the sharks in, so you get a front-row seat to one of the great wildlife shows in the Pacific.
Bull sharks are the stars, but a typical morning brings up to eight species. Because the site sits close to the edge of the lagoon, tiger sharks regularly cruise in from deeper water on the second dive. Every dive is led by our team, who brief you on shark behaviour, run the whole trip to a strict safety plan, and explain how this dive supports conservation in Beqa Lagoon.

What Happens on Your Morning Shark Dive
- 7:30 AM, check-in in Pacific Harbour We check certification cards, you sign waivers, and our team helps you go over your gear and fit.
- Shark briefing You'll learn about shark behaviour, our conservation work in Beqa Lagoon, the dive procedures, and boat safety.
- Boat ride to The Colosseum It takes about 35 minutes, followed by a full dive-site briefing before anyone enters the water.
- Dive 1: the hand-fed dive You descend a mooring line to 18–20 m and kneel with your back to the wall. Our guides and shark feeders hand-feed the sharks for about 30 minutes while you stay still and watch. This dive usually features bull, reef, nurse and lemon sharks. You then ascend the line and complete a 5-minute safety stop.
- One-hour surface interval Enjoy hot drinks, water, fruit and cookies while the crew swaps your tank. A second bin of shark food is hung in the water to draw more sharks in.
- Dive 2: the free-feeding dive Same entry, same descent, but this time the bin is opened and the sharks feed first come, first served. The scent often brings tiger sharks up from the deeper water around the lagoon.
- 12:30–1:00 PM, back at the dive shop Head to the Shark Bait Cafe for a hot lunch if you've pre-booked one.
Sharks You Can See at The Colosseum
Beqa Lagoon is known for its variety. On a typical dive we see up to eight species:
- Bull sharks Heavy-bodied, blunt-nosed and the main attraction, often seen in large numbers.
- Tiger sharks Striped, powerful and regular visitors, most often seen on the second dive.
- Tawny nurse sharks Sandy-coloured and calm, often resting on the sand.
- Sicklefin lemon sharks Slender, with sickle-shaped dorsal fins.
- Blacktip reef sharks Agile reef patrollers with black-tipped fins.
- Whitetip reef sharks Easy to spot by their white fin tips.
- Grey reef sharks Fast, curious and streamlined.
- Silvertip sharks Sleek, with bright silver-edged fins.

These are wild animals, so sightings change from day to day and we can't promise any particular species. To learn more about what lives on the reef, see our guide to the marine life of Fiji.
Who Can Do the Fiji Shark Dive?
You need at least an Open Water diver certification (or equivalent), and we check your card before departure. The site's depth of just 18–20 metres makes it suitable for newer divers as well as experienced ones. Not certified yet? Our SSI Open Water Diver course can get you ready before your shark dive.
With only 2–4 guests per staff member, everyone gets close attention from briefing to safety stop.
Safety and Dive Procedures
Guests stay in position at the wall during feeding, and everyone follows the dive plan the whole way through. If a diver doesn't follow the procedures, the dive is ended and they will be guided back to the boat. They can't take part in the following dive. We're strict about this because it protects every diver on the trip.

Best Time of Year for Shark Diving in Fiji
You can dive with sharks at The Colosseum all year. Winter (May to October) tends to bring more shark activity, and the water is cooler, so we recommend a 3 mm wetsuit and some divers prefer 5 mm. Summer (November to April) brings warmer water and generally calmer seas. Pick the season that suits your trip, and read our full Fiji shark dive guide for more.
Why Dive with Coral Coast Divers
- Education first From the owners to the dive masters and shark feeders, everyone briefs you on shark biology, behaviour and conservation.
- A site chosen for the sharks The Colosseum sits close to the edge of Beqa Lagoon, which is why we see tiger sharks more often than many operators in the area.
- Small groups With 2–4 guests per staff member, you're never just a face in a crowd.
- Trusted by divers Our 350 Google reviews praise the crew's safety, knowledge and care for the sharks.
- Everything on one site Rent gear, grab breakfast or lunch at the Shark Bait Cafe, or stay nearby with our dive and stay options.
Diving That Protects Beqa Lagoon
About 25 years ago, Beqa Lagoon's reefs were struggling from overfishing and destructive practices. Responsible shark tourism has helped turn that around. Money from the dives goes back into conservation, including shark food, education materials, seafloor clean-up supplies and community programs, and the reef now supports around 300 fish species and healthy coral. When you book this dive, you're helping keep that going. Want to go deeper? Take a look at our 7-day shark conservation program.
Booking Policy: Please Read Before You Book
- Minimum of 4 divers. The shark dive runs with at least 4 guests unless a private dive has been booked or a single diver pays for 4. If we cancel because we don't have enough divers, you'll receive a full refund.
- Priced per trip. The price covers both tanks. There's no refund or discount if you only want to do one.
- Waivers. Each diver gets a link to complete their registration and waiver after booking.

Fiji Shark Dive FAQs
Is the Fiji shark dive safe?
We run it as a controlled, guided dive with pre-dive safety briefings, small groups (2–4 guests per staff member), and strict procedures that every diver has to follow. Guests stay in position at the wall during feeding, and any diver who doesn't follow the plan is guided back to the boat.
Do I need to be an experienced diver?
No. You need an Open Water certification or equivalent. The dive is at 18–20 metres, and newer divers are welcome as long as they follow the briefing.
What sharks will I see on the dive?
Up to eight species, including bull sharks, tiger sharks, tawny nurse sharks, sicklefin lemon sharks, blacktip, whitetip and grey reef sharks, and silvertip sharks. Sightings depend on the day.
Will I see tiger sharks?
Tiger sharks are regular visitors, especially on the second dive, and our site's position near the lagoon edge gives us a strong chance of an encounter. They're wild animals though, so we can't guarantee one.
What is the best time of year for the shark dive in Fiji?
You can dive all year. Winter (May–October) tends to bring more shark activity with cooler water, and summer (November–April) brings warmer water and generally calmer seas.
What's included in the price?
Two guided shark dives, boat transport from Pacific Harbour, pre-dive briefings, and refreshments on board. Gear rental, Nitrox, meals and packages are optional add-ons.
Can I do just one tank?
The trip is priced per trip for two tanks. We can't offer a refund or a lower price if you only do one dive.
What happens if the dive is cancelled?
We need at least four divers for the shark dive to run (unless you've booked a private dive). If we cancel for that reason, you'll receive a full refund.
Can I book breakfast or lunch?
Yes. Add a hot breakfast with coffee (+$12) or a hot lunch (+$16) from the Shark Bait Cafe when you book.
Where do I meet you?
At Coral Coast Divers, 1 Atoll Place, Pacific Harbour, Fiji, at 7:30 AM. Questions? Call us on +679 291 0167 or visit our contact page.
